Furniture Buying: Part 1 - How to Measure

Measure twice, buy once! Right? Sure.

But it's so easy to get caught up in the exciting moment and just not pay much attention to the dimensions. Especially when it’s the perfect piece, at the best price! We have bought furniture online or in the store, just to realize…it doesn’t fit!

To save you time, money, and energy…Follow these tips and have no regrets!

MEASURE ENTRIES AND PASSAGES

  • Go over and measure all the entries, passages, stairways, and doorways your furniture has to travel to reach its final destination. When measuring doorways measure height (A), width (B), and entry clearance (C).

  • Measure width, height, and diagonal width. Diagonal width is essential for large Casegoods to ensure they will clear your doorways.

  • Make note of any corners that need to be turned in a hallway or staircase. Make sure to measure diagonally over here too.

  • Note any light fixtures, railings, or architectural impediments along the way.
